About this tool

Search a built-in table of common MIME types by file extension (png), by MIME type (image/png or image/), or by keyword (json, zip). Each result shows the MIME type, its file extensions and a short description, with one-click copy for the MIME type or the extension list. The whole table ships with the page and every lookup runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and the tool keeps working offline.

How to use
  1. Type a file extension such as png, a full MIME type such as image/png, or a category prefix such as image/.
  2. Browse the matching rows: each shows the MIME type, its extensions and a one-line description.
  3. Click Copy MIME or Copy extensions to copy the value you need to your clipboard.
What is a MIME type and where is it used?

A MIME type (media type) is a label such as image/png or application/json that tells software what kind of data a file or HTTP response contains. Browsers, web servers, email clients and APIs use it to decide how to render, download or process content. It is written as type/subtype, for example text/html or video/mp4.

Why can the same extension map to several MIME types (e.g. .ts)?

Extensions are not unique: .ts is both TypeScript source code (application/typescript) and an MPEG transport stream used for video broadcasting and HLS (video/mp2t). Likewise .xml can be text/xml or application/xml, and .rar has both application/vnd.rar and the legacy application/x-rar-compressed. When in doubt, check the MIME type your server or tool actually sends rather than guessing from the extension alone.

Is the data available offline?

Yes. The entire MIME type table is built into the page, so the tool never contacts a server, uploads your input or downloads a database. Every search runs locally in your browser and works without an internet connection.
